No matter what kind of equipment you own—whether it’s a compact tractor or a riding mower—it’s incredibly important that you clean it regularly. Cleaning your machinery will not only increase its overall service life but help keep rust and corrosion at bay and ensure your various parts and implements last as long as possible. To learn how to correctly clean your equipment from top to bottom, be sure to read through our helpful cleaning guide below!

Purchase the Right Products

Unfortunately, cleaning equipment isn’t always as easy as cleaning a car. Machinery often builds up an impressive layer of muck and grime over time and typically requires more heavy-duty products to get them spic and span. If your equipment is exceptionally dirty, we recommend purchasing a gentle acid wash and a wax to help remove caked-on mud and gunk. If you’re missing automotive soap, a durable scrub brush, or a plastic scraping tool to help remove stuck-on debris, we encourage you to purchase these as well while you’re out.

Cleaning Your Equipment

Before you grab your soap and sponge, take a moment to use your hose or power washer to try and remove as much stuck-on mud and dirt as possible. Once your equipment is thoroughly rinsed from top to bottom, and the majority of the grime has been removed, feel free to use a soft sponge to begin applying suds to your machinery in sections—rinsing as you go. If you come across any caked-on materials the hose left behind, use a durable scrub brush or plastic scraping tool to remove them by hand before allowing your machinery to dry out in the sun.

If your machinery is extremely dirty or hasn’t been washed in a number of months, you may need to be more thorough with your cleaning process. If this is the case for you, once you’ve rinsed your equipment from top to bottom, go ahead and apply a gentle acid wash and allow it to sit for a few short minutes. Afterward, wash and dry your equipment as normal, before allowing it to dry in the sun. Once it’s completely dry, you’ll want to grab a few soft towels and apply a protective layer of wax to the body.
